Born in 1975 as the son of Spanish immigrants, I was raised and currently reside in Karlsruhe, Germany. My introduction to the Hip-Hop culture occurred in the mid-80s when I came into contact with it. During that time, my older brother was trying electric bogaloo. In our diverse neighborhood, the older kids were either engaged in graffiti or breakdancing. Hip-hop served as a unifying influence among the immigrant children.
Between 1988 and 1992, I began crafting my initial tags and throw-ups. Throughout that period, I delved into various artistic avenues – dancing, rapping, and deejaying. The atmosphere was distinctive: we were all venturing into the unknown, participating in something that felt distinctly ours – hip-hop, even though we didn’t completely grasp its significance.
The most captivating and mysterious element of hip-hop for me was graffiti.
My profound fascination with graffiti revolves around its connection to writing. All forms of calligraphy, advertisements, and logos serve as my inspiration, regardless of the typography I’m working with. Naturally, other graffiti artists also exert an influence on me. While I occasionally express emotions or messages through characters or images, nothing eclipses the potency of letters.
Over the years, I’ve taken on numerous projects for companies, governments, events, associations, media platforms, and private individuals. I’ve also honed my graphic skills and organizational abilities, arranging events, workshops, and social and cultural initiatives.
In 2001, I co-founded the nonprofit organization Farbschall e.V. In 2005, I initiated and developed the first German Hip-Hop Culture Center called Combo, which I continue to operate today in partnership with the city of Karlsruhe, along with the support of volunteers and backers.
Thanks to my urban passion, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with cultures and people from around the world. I am aware that I’ve shared knowledge, experiences, and influenced numerous individuals and structures over time.
The current moment is merely a pause in my journey. Experiences and circumstances have directed and will continue to steer my ongoing voyage, constituting an eternal struggle between the artist and administrative structures in order to keep building.
Because of this, I’ve chosen to maintain my creative work free from commercial endeavors where the customer seeks mere satisfaction.
The freedom of art is my chosen weapon.
