Wer bin Ich? Wer bist Du? Wer ist Baske ToBeTrue? Ein schlauer Mann sagte einmal: „Werde, der Du bist.“ So treffend auf den Punkt gebracht, ist es doch die größte Herausforderung für ein Menschlein, herauszufinden, wer es denn ist. Könnte es sich selber gegenübersitzen, hätte es vielleicht eine Ahnung. Doch solange der Geist noch im müden Körper feststeckt, arbeitet er mit den Händen und betrachtet sein Schaffen. Baske ToBeTrue malt fast immer Baske. Die Urform des Graffiti liegt in der ständigen Wiederholung des eigenen Namens. Das einzige Wort, was unsere Identität bezeichnet. Was an der Oberfläche so aussieht wie ein Machtkampf der Egos, kann beim näheren Hinsehen vielleicht das Gegenteil bedeuten – die Überwindung des eigenen Selbst. Ein fortwährendes Kämpfen gegen das unbekannte Ich, genau da, wo es jeder sehen kann. Doch nicht ein Jeder wird es bemerken, wenn er im Vorbeigehen eigene Kämpfe austrägt. Baske ist frei. Authentizität geht nicht mit Trendverneinung einher, doch folgt man der Masse, verliert man sich allzu leicht darin. Man kann Regeln und Normen nur so lange befolgen, wie man nicht fähig ist, sich die eigenen zu kreieren. Hip Hop, Graffiti, Street Art, Moderne – alles nur Bezeichnungen für Konzepte, die ein Gespräch ermöglichen. Aber ebenso sind sie alle Fesseln, die irgendwann abgelegt werden müssen, im Sinne der Freiheit.
English Who am I? Who are you? Who is Baske ToBeTrue? A clever man once said: “Become who you are.” In a nutshell, it is the greatest challenge for a human being to find out who it is. If it could sit across from itself, it might have a clue. But as long as the mind is still stuck in the tired body, it works with the hands and looks at its work.
Baske ToBeTrue almost always paints Baske. The original form of graffiti lies in the constant repetition of one’s own name. The only word that denotes our identity. What on the surface looks like a power struggle of the egos may, on closer inspection, mean the opposite – overcoming one’s own self. A constant struggle against the unknown self, exactly where everyone can see it. But not everyone will notice if they fight their own battles in passing.
Baskue is free. Authenticity does not go hand in hand with trend negation, but if you follow the crowd, it is all too easy to get lost in it. You can only follow rules and norms as long as you are unable to create your own. Hip hop, graffiti, street art, modern art – all just names for concepts that make a conversation possible. But they are also all shackles that have to be removed at some point, in the sense of freedom.

En pocas palabras, es el mayor desafío para un ser humano descubrir quién es. Si pudiera sentarse frente a sí mismo, podría tener una pista. Pero mientras la mente siga atrapada en el cuerpo cansado, trabaja con las manos y mira su trabajo. Baske ToBeTrue casi siempre pinta Baske. La forma original del graffiti radica en la constante repetición del propio nombre. La única palabra que denota nuestra identidad. Lo que en la superficie parece una lucha de poder de los egos puede, en una inspección más cercana, significar lo contrario: superarse a uno mismo. Una lucha constante contra el yo desconocido, exactamente donde todos pueden verlo. Pero no todos se darán cuenta si pelean sus propias batallas de pasada. Baske es libre. La autenticidad no va de la mano con la negación de la tendencia, pero si sigues a la multitud, es muy fácil perderse. Solo puede seguir reglas y normas siempre que no pueda crear las suyas propias. Hip hop, graffiti, arte callejero, modernidad: todos nombres para conceptos que permiten la conversación. Pero también son todos grilletes que hay que quitar en algún momento, en el sentido de libertad.
